Chicago Bears: Bears Defense Crumbles Without Briggs

Roy Helu and the Redskins offence just managed to outlast the Bears on Sunday.
The Redskins gave up a special teams touchdown to Devin Hester — who didn’t see that coming? — and had their defence shredded by a backup quarterback playing his first regular season game in 21 months.
They took advantage of an injury-depleted Chicago Bears defence and scored their most points since 2005, needing every morsel of offence from Robert Griffin III and Co., right down to Roy Helu’s game-deciding 3-yard touchdown with 45 seconds remaining.
They beat the Bears 45-41 Sunday, raising their record to 2-4 while not doing much to alleviate the doubts surrounding the reigning NFC East champions.
The Bears defense may have two weeks' worth of nightmares to sort through after what happened Sunday at FedEx Field. In a 45-41 loss that sent them stumbling into their week off battered and dismayed, the Bears had many eye-opening breakdowns to revisit.
The Redskins, on the way to 499 total yards, used a methodical running attack, their trusty read-option game and a masterful performance by quarterback Robert Griffin III to produce 13 plays of 15 yards or longer.
That doesn't include four of the offense's five touchdowns, the last a 3-yard run by Roy Helu in the final minute.
